Most Common Insulation Types
Trying to figure out which insulation level is the right fit for your home and your budget? Are you more concerned about keeping the temperature just right, or do you want a door that's thicker and stronger? While we can do other options if you ask, here are the three types of door construction that most people go for:
Non-Insulated
Our non-insulated garage door is our most economical option with one layer of steel and a hollow backing. However, it will not provide temperature control and since it is one layer will not provide the ultimate strength that the insulated options offer.
Polystyrene, 2 Layer, Insulated
This door will have a layer of steel on the front with polystyrene insulation on the interior. This door comes with a vinyl backing and provides mid-grade insulation. This door is slightly more cost effective than the 3 layer insulated doors but will have a lower insulation factor and will not have the extra durable steel backing.
Polystyrene, 3 Layer, Insulated* (Best Seller!)
This insulation level is our top pick and our best seller! With a 3 layer construction, it provides excellent insulation and extreme durability on both the front and back of the door. This door will have a steel backing with high-quality, polystyrene insulation on the interior.
Polyurethane, 3 Layer, Insulated* (Highest R-Value)
If you have a highly insulated garage and would like an above and beyond insulated garage door, the polyurethane insulated door may be the pick for you! Having an extremely high insulation factor, this door may assist in cutting energy costs and preserving temperature-sensitive supplies kept in the garage by keeping the garage cool in the summer and toasty in the winter. It’s construction type will be steel on the front, steel on the back, and premium polyurethane insulation on the interior.
**Please note: for this door to make a difference with temperature control, the garage will need to already be highly insulated and sealed well.
